June Update: Kick off the summer with Skraptacular!

Hello blog readers, Skraptacular has some exciting news, from July 2nd through October 1st, a ten-second advertisement for Skraptacular will run every hour on a 20' x 26' foot jumbotron located smack in the middle of Time Square's most busy street: 42nd between 7th and 8th Avenues. The ad will reach the over 1.5 million who pass through daily and will raise awareness, promoting our message and our partners. Throughout June, we did several beach clean-ups at local beaches, all of which had a good turn out. We also finished up our last class with the UPCA students. From sorting fabric and plastic to making dresses from plarn for the trashion fashion show, I am sure these children will go far with helping the earth. Also, we were proud to be chosen as one of about seven local partners at Jack Johnson's June 7th Jones Beach concert and on June 10th at his Prospect Park Bandshell appearance, we were happy to help his fans to see beyond the trash. Jack Johnson is an inspiration and a hero to Skraptacular.

Now for this weeks craft; bust your summertime boredom with upcycled popsicle sticks!    Save the popsicle sticks from ice pops and ice cream to create summer boredom busters-

  1. Wash the sticks.
  2. Choose one color of paint and paint a third of the popsicle stick.
  3. On the non painted part, write an activity you like to do.
  4. Choose another color of paint and repeat step 2.
  5. Write on the non painted side, a place you like to go.

There you have it, boredom busters that help the environment. You can also do other categories besides activities and places to go, such as art projects, board games or even books to read.

That’s all for now!
